We are saddened to hear of the passing of one of our own, Larry Barber, on Saturday, July 20th.
Certain events in our lives ask us to reflect on our purpose and place in the world. The recent passing of Larry Barber, was one of those events. Larry Barber was a Veritas ambassador and worked with us for close to 20 years.
On Friday night at the Veritas Supper Series, Emily Hodson, in welcoming the guests to the evening, quoted to the assembled guests a passage from an essay written by Larry and Donna entitled “Aging Lessons from the Fruit of the Vine.”
The quote relates to how wine is richer and ages longer when fortified with brandy, in the same way as humans:
“We all age better when we are fortified with great friends and family. We age better when we are surrounded with loved ones who pick us up and make this journey richer, fuller and much sweeter.”
Larry was one of those people who made our lives much fuller and sweeter.
Larry’s enthusiasm was infectious. He always spoke from the heart, was utterly convincing, and was truly an ambassador for our wines at a time when we needed him the most.
Everyone at Veritas—what he and Donna called our “Veritas family”—was deeply shocked and saddened by his unexpected passing, and he will be sadly missed.

This sincere message is heartfelt and very nicely written. Larry sure sounds like a great man and he will be missed by many. Russell
I’m so sorry for your loss. Do you have a link to the full essay? I would love to read it.
We do not have a link to an online version, unfortunately. The quote comes from a limited print book that the Barber’s gifted to the Hodsons!
